When you have something infinitely structured, and with infinite structure, than all structure, no matter what, exists. Our perception of reality is just a plane of existence intersected by and through all the other planes. Each plane being artificially defined and only by those that wish to define them. Who can say where one ends and the other begins? At one end of the spectrum lies that definable by real objects, no more real than a change in a magnetic field by the reckoning of humanity today, and at the other a tapestry, whose fabric in lies stories, myth, recollections, drawings, untold and told.
In this Universe, the angels exist. Part of themselves told through the legends of a people so transformed by time as not to be the same, much of which is hidden from the eye - unless one sees the Universe as it is. Other parts of themselves within the physical structure of books, and patterns in the consciousness of living thought.
The angels are favored by God, for being like God they are omniscient, omnipresent, everlasting and are magical. But they are not as great as God. And as to their magic, it comes about from their vast knowledge of almost all things.
It is said that the angels once played a game. While this game has as many rules as there is sand on a beach, it would seem that they were to forget one thing, and each to be given, by God, a gift. They were also allowed to chose one distinguishing quality, a characteristic, of which, were you to meet another angel, it would be so defined.
Now, while the game was in play, it so happened that the Devil and the Angel Michael met with each other. The Devil, so we are told, assailed heaven, to put itself in place of God for all eternity. We are also told that Michael warred with the Devil and cast it down.
Michael is loved by God for he upholds the virtues of God. Thou shall not kill is a fundamental to him, by which, should this Law of God be reversed, he would stop existing. And angels must, by the very nature of the Universe, always exist regardless. We now know that this was the distinguishing quality that it chose.
The Devil on the other hand, from discerning its various qualities, chose to forget that God is greatest. And to forget, for an angel in the game, is no mere lack of a remembrance, or a dismissal from ones mind, but is something far more altogether. You could say, even if evidence were to preclude absolutely what you believe, you would still deny it.
Angels are not human. When they meet, it is not so prosaic as when you meet a friend or an enemy. It is more like a dance to our eyes. Firstly their attention is suddenly shifted, their eyes glancing towards their subject. Supposedly they come close to each other, walking around each other but never touching. Appreciating who it is they have met through their supremely manifold senses.
Usually, as the dance unfolds, we in our plane of existence, would hardly notice its outcomes. Maybe the wind would blow from the East, shifting the dust just so. However, when two beings, so antithetical to each other meet, sometimes a battle ensues. This is the story of just such a battle.
As we understand it, the Angels, as the game goes, chose their proponents.
The Devil chose a man from a land called Godzone. A person whose power, by virtue of being in the land's police force, allowed him use of a weapon. An electronic weapon. And Michael, as far as we can tell, chose a no-one.
